The union representing UPS pilots has reached an agreement with the company to make flights to mainland China voluntary as the coronavirus crisis unfolds.

Pilots and crewmembers with concerns about their safety can opt to be replaced temporarily on those flights. They will be required to take unpaid leave of absence or paid sick leave if they cannot be rescheduled on another route.

Airlines including Delta, United and American have suspended service to China and to Hong Kong. DHL has also suspended its services to China until February 9th. FedEx and UPS continue to operate flights to China as far as local restrictions allow, but have warned of delays.

UPS announced that it is prioritising healthcare and aid shipments and making the most of its robust network to redirect supplies as needed.
