UPS is developing its healthcare distribution infrastructure within Latin America by creating new facilities throughout the region. The company are due to follow up on the recent opening of their new facility near Mexico City, by expanding in opening new buildings in Sao Paulo, Brazil and Santiago in Chile, during the coming months. The expansion will see UPS carry out investments to address the evolution of the medical and pharmaceutical markets throughout Latin America.

With the region already making home to two of the world’s top 15 healthcare consumer markets, UPS has said their plans to expand will enable access to 70% of the total healthcare and manufacturing markets within Latin America.

UPS Vice President, John Menna, said: “Latin America represents a strong growth opportunity for healthcare companies and providers who rely on UPS’ network of dedicated facilities, air freight, and safety compliance expertise to support their business goals.”

UPS, who has been operating within Mexico since 1989, said the new facility is looking to open later this year with the ability to serve clinics, distributors, pharmacies and patients. The building itself will be 171,000 square foot, with 78,000 square feet of this area being dedicated to healthcare specifically.

The new Brazilian building will provide up to 80,000 square feet of space, meaning it will serve the biggest pharmaceutical consumption market in Latin America. Accompanying this will be a 21,000 square foot facility built in Chile.

All new facilities are to conform to global, regional and local set regulations that currently govern healthcare products. President of the UPS Americas Region, Romaine Seguin, has said: “Each expansion is designed to ensure we deliver service excellence. Our mission, which is posted in every UPS healthcare facility around the world, reminds employees that ‘It’s a patient, not a package’, as we put in place dedicated solutions and specially trained people who bring the mantra to life.”
