DHL has recently announced it has officially become the new international logistics and e-Commerce partner of FC Bayern Munich in a six year deal, running until 2020.

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Chairman of FC Bayern Munich’s Executive Board, has said: “FC Bayern Munich is now a global player whose fan base is constantly expanding in a large number of countries and on all continents.” Rummenigge also added: “We just completed our summer tour in the United States. This trip showed us…just how much potential we have in international markets. With DHL acting as our…globally respected partner, we intent to further expand our online touch points with our fans around the world and thus our international merchandising.”

An increasing amount of people now choose to shop online, and there is no other sport that moves its fans around the world as much as football does. Aside from Germany and the USA, China and other Asian countries are rapidly expanding growth markets for football. In order for the sport to reach its fans, logistics is needed. A leading club like FC Bayern Munich require assistance in the increasingly critical area of merchandise shipping.

CEO of Deutsche Post DHL, Frank Appel, has said: “We are really looking forward to our strategic alliance with such a highly respected partner as FC Bayern Munich. Our services will create a strong base that will enable the team to build on its business success both nationally and internationally. Two strong, internationally respected brands like FC Bayern Munich and DHL will also profit from each other in the sponsoring partnership they have set up.”

The first phase of the partnership will enable visitors and fans to the Allianz Arena in Munich to have merchandise shipped from the FC Bayern Megastore directly to their home addresses.
