Parcel delivery company UPS has recently been recognised by Green Freight Europe (GFE) for its efforts in reporting and reducing emissions. The ‘first leaf’ award is given to companies which have been known to actively share its CO2 data, as well as information on policies, strategy and further intentions to reduce CO2 emissions from its transportation operations. Along with UPS, companies such as IKEA and Heineken, also received recognition for their efforts.

UPS has been a member of GFE since 2009, with GFE being the leading industry driven program to support other companies in improving and excelling environmental performances of freight transport throughout Europe.

This year sees UPS successfully execute its global greenhouse gas (GHG) for the second year running. In 2013, the company was able to reduce its emissions by 1.5% compared to the previous year. UPS currently run over 3,000 alternative fuel vehicles worldwide, which have logged more than 560 million kilometres and have successfully avoided the unnecessary use of 130 million litres of gasoline and diesel.
