DHL Global Forwarding has opened a new logistics centre next to Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. Located in the Schiphol Southeast business park, the Life Science Competence Center is dedicated to life science and healthcare products.

The new hub is used for the transport, preparation and temporary storage of temperature-controlled pharmaceutical and medical products, and staffed by just over a dozen highly trained specialists.

Different areas of the facility serve various needs. For example, one area is specifically designed for products that must be kept between two and eight degrees Fahrenheit in temperature, while another allows a range of 36-46 degrees. An alarm will be triggered if these ranges are exceeded, thanks to temperature and humidity sensors.

The Life Science Competence Center responds to a growing need for solutions to temperature-controlled air transport. It also provides DHL’s Thermonet service, which allows the condition of these products to be monitored all the way along the supply chain.
